Case Study Overview

BAE Systems Australia is leading Australia’s largest ever surface ship project in our defence history - the design and construction of Hunter Class frigates.

RVT Group has teamed up with BAE to help extract welding and paint fumes from within the frigates. RVT Group has a long relationship with BAE Systems following numerous other successful projects together in the UK.

Challenge

One of the biggest challenges with a project of this nature is the confined spaces and limited airflow deep within the ship.

With welding and paint fumes among the major health risks facing site workers today, RVT Group has been tasked with removing these fumes for the safety of the construction team. To make matters more challenging, these fumes are quite often up to 60 metres away from fresh air.

It is a tricky scenario requiring a bespoke solution to ensure all parts of the ship's interior are safe.

Solution

Ravex Burning Fume Extraction Kits and Ravex Painting Fume Extraction Kits are both being used to transform dangerous fumes to fresh and safe air for workers within the ships.

The Ravex Burning Fume Filtration Kit is designed to capture gases, smoke and fumes created from metal burning work, and filter out the smoke particles.

While the Ravex Painting Fume Extraction Kit is best suited for safely extracting all types of fumes and gases, such as those resulting from spraying or painting activities.

Additionally, up to 60 metres of ducting has been utilised to reach all parts of the ship’s interior.
