A contractor operating at Brisbane International Airport required a safe and compliant way to move diesel-powered equipment (an elevated work platform) through an enclosed area of the airport. With limited natural ventilation and workers operating nearby, there was concern around the build-up of hazardous diesel exhaust emissions — particularly carcinogenic diesel particulate matter (DPM).
The client approached RVT Group seeking a practical engineering control solution that would allow work to continue safely while reducing airborne diesel fumes.
The enclosed environment presented several key risks and operational challenges:
With increasing industry focus on diesel particulate exposure and workplace air quality, the client required a proven hazard control measure that could be deployed quickly and effectively.
Following consultation with the client, RVT Group recommended the implementation of a specialised RAVEX® Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) system to reduce exhaust emissions directly at the source.
The filtration system was selected to:
RVT Group’s Technical Consultants worked closely with the project team to ensure the solution integrated effectively with the equipment and operational requirements of the airport environment. We also provided a MONITEX® Area Gas Monitor to ensure carbon monoxide levels were minimal.
By implementing a diesel particulate filtration solution, the client was able to:
The project demonstrated the importance of controlling diesel emissions at the source when operating machinery in enclosed or poorly ventilated environments.g consistently clear effluent suitable for controlled discharge in line with environmental and regulatory expectations.
