Managing Crystalline Silica Exposure: Dust Control Vent Filters
Managing Crystalline Silica, and other onsite dust, is crucial to the health and wellbeing of your workers. The diseases that can come from not managing onsite dust, while not curable, are preventable. Learn how RVT Group can minimise the risk of dust exposure on your worksite.

What is Crystalline Silica Exposure?
To first control the risk, you must understand it. While all airborne dust is hazardous to health, Crystalline Silica is particularly dangerous. It is composed of Silicon Dioxide – a chemical compound found in sand, stone, concrete and mortar. Crystalline Silica makes up benchtops, bricks, tiles and some plastics. When workers dislodge this material, they generate tiny dust particles small enough to enter airways. This is known as Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS) and is the primary cause of Silicosis.
Studies show that airborne hazards in the workplace such as dust, fumes and vapour, can cause a range of severe respiratory diseases. These can include; Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD) and Silicosis. These conditions are not curable, but they are preventable.

Preventing Crystalline Silica Exposure with Dust Control Vent Filters
According to WHS Regulations, PCBU’s must manage all Respirable Crystalline Silica health hazards. This means maintaining Australian Crystalline Silica exposure limits. Here is where RVT Group can help.
At RVT Group, we take dust exposure seriously. Silica and other hazardous dust should always be filtered rather than extracted from the work area. This prevents any potential emissions or particles from migrating outside the work zone. Our advanced dust control equipment helps minimise Silica exposure and other airborne emissions. Whether you're dealing with heavy dust, fine dust, odours or vapour mist, you can depend on our dust control vent filters to keep you safe.
RVT Group offers a range of dust control vent filters to suit your workplace needs:
HEPA Filters: ideal for eliminating Silica. Removes at least 99.97% of dust, pollen, mould, bacteria, and any airborne particles with a size of 0.3 microns.
Particulate Exhaust Filters: best for removing soot and minute pollutants in exhaust systems.
Carbon Filters: eliminates odours, smoke, and removes contaminants from water (chlorine, lead, pesticides).
Washable Filters: a cost-effective option to keep your ventilation systems clear of contaminants.
We also provide replacement filters for all the equipment that we supply. So when you order from RVT Group, you know that you're receiving the correct filter for your workplace.
Choosing the Correct Dust Control Vent Filter
To reduce the risk of Crystalline Silica exposure in the workplace, we recommend using a HEPA filter and equipment from our Dustex range.
Our Dustex products effectively remove hazardous dust types, including Respirable Crystalline Silica. The Dustex range includes:
Dust extraction units
HEPA filtration units
