What is Crystalline Silica Exposure?

To first control the risk, you must understand it. While all airborne dust is hazardous to health, Crystalline Silica is particularly dangerous. It is composed of Silicon Dioxide – a chemical compound found in sand, stone, concrete and mortar. Crystalline Silica makes up benchtops, bricks, tiles and some plastics. When workers dislodge this material, they generate tiny dust particles small enough to enter airways. This is known as Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS) and is the primary cause of Silicosis.
