A highly respected construction firm was engaged to demolish a large children’s hospital internal courtyard (and subsequently build a new staff room), which was surrounded by eight storeys of hospital wards and operating theatres. Our client’s challenge was to progress with this work in an efficient yet non-disruptive manner, given the obvious immediate sensitivities.
The construction firm was working within a children’s hospital environment – needing to perform jack hammering and saw-cutting to demolish the existing internal courtyard, taking it down to slab level.
Eight storeys of hospital wards and operating theatres were looking in and down on the area, and the construction team were originally only permitted to perform the demolition works during dedicated ‘noisy working hours’.

The client had originally planned to only work during agreed ‘noisy working hours’, however after performing a sound test with the hospital’s management using our SOUNDEX® Multipurpose Enclosure, the construction team were permitted to work all hours, including evenings.
“Noise and mitigating noise for the patients around us – that issue was resolved on day one. The noise was a nonissue.”
The client was able to progress efficiently with the job, and the surrounding patients were unaffected.
